Dental Implants FAQs
Answers to Common Questions About Dental Implants
Will my insurance cover dental implants?
The coverage of dental implants can depend on a couple different things like: insurance providers, your plan coverage details, and plan annual limits. We are starting to see more and more dental insurance plans covering dental implants. Every patient’s insurance plan is unique, as a courtesy we will check your benefits and go over finances on your consultation appointment.
How long will dental implants last?
With proper care, implants have been shown to last for over 40 years. A dental implant’s life span is generally greater than that of a traditional dental bridge or denture, making them a more economical long- term investment. Dental implants have an overall success rate of about 95%.
How long does the procedure take?
Most of the time the procedure to place the dental implant takes 30 to 60 minutes for one implant, and only 2 to 3 hours for multiple implants.
Is everything done in one office, or in one visit?
Any surgical procedure is usually done by the oral surgeon. Dr. Newby will be doing an extraction, grafting, and placing the dental implant(s). Your general dentist provides the temporary and permanent replacement teeth. Both doctors are involved in planning your dental treatment. Your treatment coordinator will go over all the treatment plans and options for our office.
Is it a painful procedure?
Patient’s report they were surprised at how little discomfort they experienced during and after getting an implant. They often return to work and daily activities the next day. Dr. Newby makes every effort to keep patients comfortable and offer a variety of sedation options. (Add the link to sedation options, and implant page)
What are the benefits of dental implants?
Some benefits of dental implants include:
- They look, act, and feel like natural teeth. People usually do not notice any difference.
- Implants are the strongest and long- lasting replacements for missing teeth.
- Implants let you talk and chew just like natural teeth.
- Implants don’t require alteration of adjacent teeth, as with dental bridges.
- Implants preserve bone in the jaw, preventing the unattractive facial sagging and loss of structure that occur over time with dentures.
- Improves self-esteem, and oral health.
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed in the jawbone. A crown, bridge or denture is attached to implants to provide lifelike new teeth. Implants can be used to replace any number of missing teeth, but an implant is not needed for every individual tooth. For example, three of four teeth can be replaced with two implants using an implant- supported bridge, or a full arch of teeth can be replaced using as few as four implants.
